Activities are intensifying in the main producing regions
Piracicaba, 23 - A banana silver production is intensifying this month in northern Minas Gerais, Bom Jesus da Lapa (BA), São Francisco Valley (PE / BA) and Delfinópolis (MG), the main producing regions of the variety. As a result, silver prices may decline in July. The prospect is that the "crop" of the variety in those regions will peak in August, when prices may fall further.
Producers consulted by Hortifruti / Cepea reported that there is still the possibility of changing varieties in bananas, replacing some areas of nanica with silver. This is because good profitability with the latter has encouraged producers, since the prices of silver in the first half of this year (in the average of the four regions), was 49% above the estimated values to cover the production costs of one kilo of fruit in the period.
In addition, the greater resistance of the silver in the face of the climatic weather and some pests, such as banana, can favor this exchange. For this "harvest", the density of the banana plantations in the northern area and the area expansion in Delfinópolis (MG) tend to increase productivity. In contrast to the silver scenario, Banana nanica supply begins to shrink in the domestic market in July.
