BANANA / CEPEA: Silver supply increases in July

    Fruits and vegetables    23/07/2018

Activities are intensifying in the main producing regions

Piracicaba, 23 - A banana silver production is intensifying this month in northern Minas Gerais, Bom Jesus da Lapa (BA), São Francisco Valley (PE / BA) and Delfinópolis (MG), the main producing regions of the variety. As a result, silver prices may decline in July. The prospect is that the "crop" of the variety in those regions will peak in August, when prices may fall further.

Producers consulted by Hortifruti / Cepea reported that there is still the possibility of changing varieties in bananas, replacing some areas of nanica with silver. This is because good profitability with the latter has encouraged producers, since the prices of silver in the first half of this year (in the average of the four regions), was 49% above the estimated values to cover the production costs of one kilo of fruit in the period.

In addition, the greater resistance of the silver in the face of the climatic weather and some pests, such as banana, can favor this exchange. For this "harvest", the density of the banana plantations in the northern area and the area expansion in Delfinópolis (MG) tend to increase productivity. In contrast to the silver scenario, Banana nanica supply begins to shrink in the domestic market in July.

BANANA / CEPEA: Damages are great in Bom Jesus da Lapa (BA)

    Fruits and vegetables    01/06/2018

Road stoppage continues to affect the market

Piracicaba, 30 - The region of Bom Jesus da Lapa (BA) suffered major losses as a reflection of the truckers strike, which extends for 10 days. The event has influenced the commercialization of most of the fruit trees in the country. As a result, banana cultivation continues without prices updated this week (28 to 30/05), due to the lack of trucks to transport the fruit for sale.

According to employees of Hortifruti / Cepea, about 40 trucks are loaded per day in the Bahian square. However, they were stopped on the highway because of blockades by the demonstrators. As a result, fruits are rotting in the field and in trucks, resulting in a loss of R $ 500,000 / day, that is, about R $ 3.5 million until this Wednesday since the beginning of the strike.
